#111 Panfa Leelard Photo Walk | 12th February 2023

(Bangkok Photographers) #1
5

Walk whisperer Mark found us another fantastic route to follow, with 60 photographers exploring

the Ban Bat and Khlong Maha Nak subdistricts together. Well, mostly together - as usual, the

group spread out and separated into sub-groups, most of which followed Mark’s route while

others followed their feet and their own inspiration.

Of those 60 photographers, 39 submitted images for Bangkok Photo Walks, though four of

those are grouped together as they submitted as a family (see page 90). As always, we are very

grateful for so many submissions, though we’d certainly welcome more!

On the day of the walk, all three of the BPG organisers heard you telling us that you loved

the variety of subjects on the route, and that’s certainly reflected in the photos submitted. In

fact, there was so much to shoot that there was comparatively little overlap of subjects. Only in a

couple of cases did more than one photographer take a subtly different shot of the same thing,

meaning the number of our usual black-paged “interludes” is down to just two, on pages 56-

and 102-103.

In another change from the usual, this month’s cover is comprised of three photos instead of

one. The shape of the number “111” does not lend itself well to showing off a single photo, but

the tryptich of images neatly showcases this remarkable part of town. Ban Bat is famously the last

area of Bangkok where alms bowls are still made by hand, Fort Mahakan is one of few remaining

Rattanakosin-era fortifications left in Bangkok and, of course, the charming people of this

neighbourhood are what make it such a great place to walk around and photograph.

While you enjoy this issue of Bangkok Photo Walks, remember that it’s also time to place your

order for a copy of Vision 2022. Click here to open the order form to get yours.

Have fun,

Greg, Ben and Mark.
