Edinburgh Voodoo Rooms

KAYA WILKINS is a Norwegian-

American, Berlin-based musician,

composer, and artist who records

and performs as Okay Kaya.

Wilkins has released numerous

acclaimed albums including her

most recent titled SAP which was

entirely self-written, performed,

engineered, and produced.

Other notable releases include

Both (2018), Watch This Liquid Pour

Itself (2020) which won the

Spellemann Award for best Indie/

Alternative (2021), Surviving Is The

New Living (2020), and The

Incompatible Okay Kaya (2021).

Wilkins has collaborated with

artists including Onyx Collective,

Anne Imhof, Porches, King Krule,

Deem Spencer, L’Rain, Austin Lee,

and Adinah Dancyger amongst

others.

Wilkins has exhibited work at Melk

in Oslo (2022), Entrance in New

York (2022), K4 gallery in Oslo

(2021) and had a solo exhibition

titled SANDPLAY at Etage Projects

in Copenhagen (2021).

THE INCREDIBLE Aldous Harding

returns to Scotland this month for a

massive headliner in the capital in

support of latest album 'Warm Chris'.

For Warm Chris, the New Zealand

musician reunited with producer

John Parish, continuing a

professional partnership that began

in 2017 and has forged pivotal

bodies of work (2017’s Party and the

aforementioned Designer). All ten

tracks were recorded at Rockfield

Studios and includes contributions

from H. Hawkline (who is supporting

here), Seb Rochford, Gavin Fitzjohn,

John and Hopey Parish and Jason

Williamson (Sleaford Mods).

GIVE A MAN A chicken and he'll eat for a day,

give a chicken a gun and he'll be the most

‘impeckable’ gunslinger this side of Texas.

Mosey on down to a free performance of

The Good, The Bad and the Poultry - a fun, silly,

chicken western show for cowboys of all ages.

The epic western is currently touring venues

across Scotland and rolls into Edinburgh on 11

April. A non-verbal exploration of fear sees

two cowboy chickens, a turkey and ‘Hennio

Morricone’ (the live poultry band) explore

being brave in the face of danger.

An outdoor, walkabout performance for all

the family from Adrenalism Theatre, The Good,

The Bad and The Poultry looks to make the

arts more accessible by performing in

non-traditional outdoor spaces and getting

the audience fully involved - not to mention

that it’s free for all audiences to attend!

Wrap around activities for families will see

little cowboys making their own wanted

poster, going on egg hunts and more - a

whole day of egg-cellent fun for all!

KIDNAPPED

11 - 22 April

Royal Lyceum Theatre

A SWASHBUCKLING new version of

Kidnapped, Robert Louis Stevenson’s

adventure-classic is touring Scotland and

England in a riotous retelling for 2023.

The new National Theatre of Scotland

production is a colourful take on Stevenson’s

historical novella about David Balfour who

leaves home for the first time and must grow

up fast to solve a family mystery and take

revenge on an evil assailant.

Jam-packed with 20th century pop music

and 18th century romance, and performed by

a dynamic ensemble of actor-musicians,

Kidnapped is a colourful coming-of-age story

• shot-through with Stevenson’s trademark
  blend of poetry, humour and heart.
  Join Davie as he navigates murderous foes,
  some Jacobite outlaws and the most inept
  crew of pirates this side of the Atlantic on a
  journey of eye-opening discovery and
  treasures untold.
  Kidnapped was adapted for the stage by
  Isobel McArthur with Michael John McCarthy.

ARE YOU READY for ice cream? This April

brings the premiere of a brand new comedy

from the Traverse Theatre Company, in the

grand Scottish dramatic tradition of Passing

Places and Midsummer.

It’s a story of friendship, finances and

flakes. Enjoy a warm journey across the west

of Scotland as two friends discover what

it takes to survive in the chilly world of

cold confectionery.

Looking for a way out of their humdrum

lives in the outskirts of Glasgow, straight-laced

Sean, fresh from dropping out of uni, and the

gallus Daro, overflowing with charisma and

business ‘acumen’, reckon they can be the

dream team of frozen treats. However, they

quickly discover that conquering the ice cream

business will be anything but a sundae stroll...

Penned by Glaswegian playwright Laurie

Motherwell, the play stars River City regulars

Cameron Fulton and Sean Connor and is

directed by Robert Softley Gale.

Writer Laurie Motherwell said: “I’m so

excited to share Sean and Daro’s journey with

audiences alongside the Traverse. I’ve always

wondered what it would be like to work an ice

cream van with your pal. So this seemed like

the best way to do that. Sean and Daro Flake It

’Til They Make It is a story full of heart about

two guys trying to make their mark despite

the odds stacked against them.”
