PHOTOGRAPHY MASTERCLASS
Fixed focal-length (prime) lenses render
greater image clarity and allow you to
shoot at a higher shutter speed, with wider
apertures in lower light. If you’re loaded
with a prime lens for a wildlife adventure,
take two to three additional lenses of
varying focal lengths.
Try a teleconverter. These increase your
lens’s reach, are lightweight and come in

and you will lose a stop or more of light.
Zoom lenses, such as a 70-300mm, have
slightly less clarity and require more light,
but enable you to shoot wildlife at various
distances without changing lenses.

camera shake, resulting in a blurred and
ruined image. When shooting from a
vehicle, rest your camera on a bean bag
with a panning plate, a pillow on your car’s
windowsill or use a window mount. This will
greatly improve the sharpness of your
images and increase you camera’s mobility.
When on foot, or for bird photography in
camp, use a sturdy tripod.
