The Peeper
Kahuzi-Biega National Park in DRC is the last
stronghold of the Grauer’s or eastern lowland
gorilla. Numbers have dwindled to less than
4 000. The park warden, with his armed guards,
took me to a specific group of gorillas. I took many
shots of this particular young male where he was
feeding on a wild banana tree. I could see how he
relaxed when the dominant male moved away
