Chris Davies
Kruger road trip, page 50

When Chris was three years
old his parents travelled with
him around the world, and
something must have stuck
because he’s been unable
to settle down ever since.
He now divides his time
between Europe and South
Africa, but can never go very
long without some quality
time in the African bush. The
Lowveld holds a particularly
special place in his heart and
northern Kruger is one of his
favourite spots on Earth.

Harriet Nimmo
Alternative Kruger, page 76
Behind-the-scenes Kruger, page 82

Originally from the UK,
Harriet drove a Toyota Corolla
around Southern Africa
25 years ago – digging it out
of the Makgadikgadi Pans,
Mana Pools and the Kalahari.
Since then she has conversed
with chimps, stayed with
Ethiopian nomadic herders,
cavorted with lemurs and
tracked desert elephants.

followed their dream and
relocated from Blighty to
South Africa eight years ago,
where they now live in a little
bush town bordering Kruger.

CONSERVATION IN ACTION AT KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Allison Foat
Netherlands, page 96

Before this trip, ballerina-
turned-travel writer Allison
Foat had never heard of
Friesland or its Eleven Cities
and Fountains, and the quirky
province in northern Holland
turned out to be a revelation.
After boating through canals
in France and Italy, Allison
has become a huge fan
of this mode of slow travel.
Drifting along the Friesian
waterways was a delightful
way to discover this corner
of the Netherlands.

Keri Harvey
Mozambique, page 88

For Keri, the more remote

be, the better. Add heat, dust
and some wildlife and it’s
her nirvana – especially
when there’s also pioneering
conservation work happening.
Zinave National Park in

the bill as an inspiring place,
where Africa is getting it right.
Keri’s nickname is ‘Double
Rugged’, even though she’s
usually in a skirt and sandals.
