A SYNOPSIS OF ROLE AND REFERENCE GRAMMAR 75
arguments explicitly specified in the logical structure of a verb must be
realized syntactically in any clause containing that verb, and all of the argu
ments in the syntax must be linked to an argument position in a LS.^46 In
simple sentences, this guarantees that there will be a match between the
number of arguments in the clause and in the LS of the verb. As will be
seen in section 7, it is extremely important in linking in complex sentence
constructions.
