suggest that such exchanges can be seen as overlapping, with the linking
utterances realizing simultaneously the second element of one exchange
and the first element of the next. Below are some examples from our data
and that of our students, analysed using chained exchanges after the Wells
model. (Other Wells innovations are not used. Wells would label the moves
Solicit, Give and Acknowledge and does not use the notation R/I.)
