HOWIGOT BOWLED OVER

BY CARAVANNING

T

hree years ago,Istartedplaying
bowls,and it wasn’t long beforea
friendat the bowling club invited
me to acamping weekendat the
Lekkerbreekresort near Mookgophong.
Icamped withmy tent... and in the
meantime gottotally hooked on the balls.
If Idon’t playmatches onweekends,Iplay
ever yday afterwork. Ialso startedvisiting
Lekkerbreek often... and thentook abig
step: Ibough tmyfirst caravan, aSprite
Swiftdating backto the late nineties.
Until then,Idrove aFordBantam, but it
wastime forapropertowing vehicle that
could hook up theSwift.
Iwentlookingforabakkie–not using
the Internet,but driving from dealerto
dealer.And that’show my path crossed
with thatofanIsuzu KB300D-TEQ
ExtendedCabinPretoriaNorth. It’s a
2008 model andIcan’t complain about its
fuel consumption.With theSwift, it gives
11,6 ℓ/100km (8,6 km/ℓ)and on itsown
an astonishing 7,1 ℓ/100km (14km/ℓ).In
both cases,these sumsweremade after
drivingat 120 km/h on cruisecontrol.
Istill enjoyLekkerbreek;Ilike towing
with my Isuzu; andIlovesleeping inmy
Sprit ewhenI’m lookingforpeaceaway
from the rush of the city.
