We can measure the mass
of very light things in an
imperial unit called ounces. This
bird has a mass of 3 ounces.

We can also use pounds to
measure mass. This big cat
has a mass of 18 pounds. There
are 16 ounces in 1 pound.

The imperial ton is used to
measure very heavy things.
There are 2240 pounds in
1 imperial ton. This elephant has
a mass of 3 imperial tons. A very
similar unit is used in the metric
system, called tonnes or metric
tons. It has a slightly different
mass to the imperial ton.
