When did we stop saving up for things?
As kids, our pocket and birthday money
that didn’t find its way to the sweet
shop was carefully stashed (and often
counted) to be finally spent on something
special. Now, in our increasingly cash-free
existence, it’s not so much the hard cash
found in jars of stray coppers, but the
anticipation and pleasure that comes
with having saved for a treat. Putting
something aside each week, month
or year surely only makes the joy
of the final purchase even sweeter.
