TOOLSANDSUPPLIES 9
The tools you use to draft are important to the success
of the process and will reflect the work you do.
- Accurate cross-section graph paper in 4-, 8-, and
10-to-the-inch increments—I use both 81/2 ̋ × 11 ̋ and
17 ̋ × 22 ̋ tablets. If your designs are larger, you can tape
sheets of graph paper together. - Compass that holds its position
- Yardstick compass for designs larger than the span
of your compass (page 20) - Mechanical pencil
- Good eraser, such as a white art eraser or gum eraser
6. Rulers: 1 ̋ × 6 ̋, 2 ̋ × 12 ̋, and/or 2 ̋ × 18 ̋ red-lined
see-through rulers—I recommend the rulers from The
C-Thru Ruler Company. These rulers are preferred over
rotary cutting rulers for drafting because they are thin
and lay flat to the paper.
7. Protractor: half-circle and full-circle—The full-circle
protractor makes it much easier to draft circles.
8. Colored pencils (optional): 6 different colors (red,
blue, orange, green, yellow, and aqua) to clarify and dis-
tinguish different drafting lines
9. Handheld calculator
10. Mirrors for designing (page 91)
