  1. Arrange the block and assemble half of the block in 5
    sections. Repeat for the second half.

Make 2 halves.


  1. Join the 2 halves. Press this long seam open in the
    middle area. Clip and press in the direction of the
    arrows at the 2 ends of the seam.


Press open.
Clip.

Clip.

Join the halves, clip, and press.

Chrysanthemum
This block, inspired by a quilt by Kitty Pippin, is based
on a mathematical formula of 12 divisions of a circle
and spiraling squares (see Bibliography, page 127). The
size of each square is the diagonal measurement of the
square that precedes it. How you position your color can
create either a concentric effect, as I did, or a spiraling
effect.
