Drafting for the Creative Quilter

(Marcin) #1

Sedona

Sedona, 451/2 ̋ × 451/2 ̋, designed, pieced, and hand quilted by the author.

Sedona was designed by fracturing one-eighth of the basic structure of a
Carpenter’s Wheel block and using mirrors to see the whole design. Once I
have a design I like, I translate that to pattern shapes and make templates.
Using the templates, I cut fabric shapes to create a rough-cut mock-up in
actual size (page 91), which becomes my color map. Once I see my quilt in
actual size, color, and fabric using mirrors, I cut fabric and sew the quilt.
You may make Sedona in either size or make any changes you’d like. Refer to
Designing within Traditional Blocks (page 79) to see how redesigning is done.
Enjoy.
