each of 2 fabrics—an accent and a
medium light.

  1. Sew Strip 1 to 2, offsetting them
by the finished width of the strip.
Press the seam open and trim the
    seam allowance to a generous 1/8 ̋.
Keeping the strip unit right side up,
cut one end of the strip unit at a 45°
angle and cut 16 segments 11/4 ̋ wide.

Cut and sew the strips, then
cut the segments.

  1. Pair 2 appropriate segments
together turning one to align the
colors, and make a mark over the
seam 1/4 ̋ from the sewing edge on
    both segments. Pin the intersection
and sew. Check to be sure the inter-
    section is perfectly matched before
pressing the seam open and trim-
    ming off the dog ears.

Pair, pin, and sew 2 segments together.

  1. Place the A/Aa template face
down on the wrong side of the fabric
diamond. Align the center and lines
of the template with the intersection
and the seams of the oversized fabric
unit. Mark the dots and carefully
cut around the template with a very
    small rotary cutter. Make 8.

Custom cut Aa from the oversized unit;
make 8.

  1. If you are making the 18 ̋ Sedona
Star, skip this step and proceed to
the B/Bb triangle unit. If you are
making the 36 ̋ Sedona Star, join 3
A’s to 1 Aa; make 8. Set aside.

A DIAMONDS AND B
TRIANGLES

  1. Arrange 2 A diamond units and
a B triangle unit. The Y-seam area is
circled. Stop sewing just before the
    dot and backstitch.

  2. Join an A unit to the B unit,
pinning at the dots and matching
points. Sew from the edge to the
dot and backstitch. Repeat for the
second A unit. To be able to sew
from the edge to the dot both times,
the diamond will be on top once and
the triangle will be on top once.

  3. Now join the 2 diamonds, pin-
ning at the dots and matching the

seams; sew from the center edge to
the dot and backstitch. Press the
triangle seams to the diamond, then
press the diamond seam open. Trim
the seam allowance to a generous
1/8 ̋. Make 4.

Join 2 A diamonds to a B triangle; make 4.

  1. Join a B unit to the right side of
each AAB unit. Pin at the dots and
sew from the edge to the dot and
    backstitch.

Join B to the right side of AAB; make 4.

  1. Join 2 AABB units together to
make 2 halves; make 2. First sew
from the outside edge to the dot
and backstitch. Next sew from the
center edge to the dot and back-
stitch. Press the triangle seams to
the diamond; then press the dia-
mond seam open. Trim the seam
    allowance to a generous 1/8 ̋.

Sew 2 AABB units together; make 2.
