CUTTING
You have already made the C template but will now use
it as Cc and place the straight of grain on the long leg of
the triangle. Make templates (page 90) for D, E, and F
(pages 123–125), adding 1/4 ̋ seam allowances to all sides
of each shape. Punch holes at the dots and transfer all
the reference lines, information, and grainline arrows.

Cc: Cut 4 from background, with grainline on the long
leg of the triangle.

D: Cut 8 from strip unit.

E: Cut 8 from strip unit.

F: Cut 8 from background.

Fr: Cut 8 from background (turn over template F).

When splitting shapes, keep the dark value on the
same side for all that are split.

D UNITS

  1. Cut 1 strip 2 ̋ × 40 ̋ (2 strips 3 ̋ × 40 ̋) from each of
2 fabrics—a deep dark and a medium light.

  2. Sew together a strip from each fabric, press the seam
open, and trim the seam allowance to a generous 1/8 ̋.

  3. Place the D template face down on the wrong side of
the strip unit, make dots, and cut 8. Set aside.
Caution: Be aware of how you are placing this template
onto the fabric strip unit. Note which half of the shape
(left or right) will be dark and be consistent. It is very
easy to make an error here.
