6-Pointed Star #1 Block
Six-Pointed Star blocks are a common patchwork design
that is developed by drafting six 60° diamonds within a
hexagon. This star (#1) aligns the points of the star with
the midpoints of the sides of the hexagon. Six-Pointed
Star #2 (at right) aligns the points of the star with the
points of the hexagon.

The drafting sequence for both star styles is the same
for both hexagon orientations.
6-Pointed Star #1 block
TO DRAFT A 3 ̋ (FINISHED) BLOCK:
- Draft a 3 ̋ hexagon positioned with one point at the
top and bottom (Option 1, page 29). - With a regular pencil, connect opposite corners
through the center to create 6 equilateral triangles. - With a red pencil, connect opposite midpoints.
- With a blue pencil, connect every other midpoint to
create a blue triangle. - With a green pencil, connect the remaining three
midpoints to create a green triangle.
Draft 6-Pointed Star #1 with hexagon points on the top and
bottom and star points aligned with the midpoint of the
hexagon’s sides.
- Erase all unnecessary lines, leaving only seamlines.

TO DRAFT A 3 ̋ (FINISHED) BLOCK:
- Draw a 3 ̋ hexagon positioned with a point at the top
and bottom (Option 1, page 29). - With a regular pencil, connect the top corner with
the 2 lower corners and then connect the lower 2 corners
to create a triangle.
