  1. With a red pencil, connect the lower corner with the
2 upper corners and then connect the upper 2 corners to
    create a red triangle.

  2. With a blue pencil, connect the 6 intersections, which
were created by the 2 overlaid triangles, to the center.

Making Hexagon Blocks Square

When you put corners on any hexagon design, you
will have a rectangle, not a square. If you want a square
block, you must add 1 strip (Option 1) or 2 strips
(Option 2) to the long sides of the block.

Measure the length and width finished and subtract
the smaller number from the larger. The difference is
what you need to add to your block to make it square.
For example, if you have a 6 ̋ hexagon, it will measure
6 ̋ × 53/ 16 ̋. The difference between 6 ̋ and 53/ 16 ̋ is
13/ 16 ̋. To make your block square, you have one of three
options.

Option 1
Add one strip the width of the difference plus 1/2 ̋ (for
the seam allowance) by the length of the block to one
long side of the block.

Option 1

Option 2
Divide the difference in half, add 1/2 ̋ for seam allowance,
cut two strips this width × the length of the block, and
add them to the two long sides of the block.

Option 2

Option 3
Cut the strip (or strips) you add wider than needed; then
trim the block to the size you need.
