Rotate pencil to form an arc.

  1. Next, place the tip of your
    pencil into the hole on the plastic
    template strip for making the outer
    arc. Starting at point F, rotate the
    pencil and plastic strip around to
    point G, forming an arc, exactly
    as shown in the diagram. Helpful
    hint: Point G is simply a check-
    point. It is the end point of the arc.

Rotate pencil to form an arc.

  1. Remove the push pin from
    point A and secure it with the
    plastic template strip at point C.

  2. Repeat Steps 12 and 13 to draw
    an inner arc from point F to point
    G and an outer arc from point E
    to point H, exactly as shown in the
    diagram.

Draw inner and outer arcs.

Helpful hint: If your block size is
not evenly divisible by 5, round off
to the nearest eighth. Use the chart
below for help. For example, 9 ÷ 5
= 1.8; 0.8 is closest to 0.75, so use
1.75, or 13/4.

0.125 = 1/8

0.25 = 1/4

0.375 = 3/8

0.5 = 1/2

0.625 = 5/8

0.75 = 3/4

0.875 = 7/8

Divide the square size and mark the
points.

  1. Cut a strip of template plastic 1 ̋
    wide by at least 1 ̋ larger than one
    side of your square.

  2. Place a push pin through the
    center of one of the short ends
    approximately 1/4 ̋ from the edge,
    exactly as shown in the diagram.

Insert push pin here.

Place a push pin.

  1. Lay your graph paper over the
    piece of cardboard (or rotary cutting
    mat to stabilize point of compass).
    Then secure the push pin and
    plastic template strip at point A.
    Make sure that the plastic template
    strip lies flat against the graph
    paper.
    9. Adjust the plastic template strip
    so that it lies over point E. Then
    use the permanent marking pen to
    indicate this point with a dot on the
    plastic template strip. This point
    will be used for constructing the
    inner arc.

Mark point E on the template.

  1. Without removing the push
    pin, rotate the plastic template strip
    toward yourself until it lies over
    point F. Then use the permanent
    pen to indicate this point with a dot
    on the plastic template strip. This
    point will be used for constructing
    the outer arc.

Mark point F on the template.

  1. Use the other push pin to pierce
    through the plastic at each of the 2
    dots. Push the pin through as far as
    it will go, as the holes must be large
    enough to accommodate the tip of
    the pencil. Remove pin.

  2. With the plastic strip and push
    pin still secure at point A, place
    the tip of your pencil into the hole
    made for the inner arc. Starting at
    point E, rotate the pencil and plastic
    template strip around to point H,
    forming an arc, exactly as shown in
