50 DRAFTINGFORTHECREATIVEQUILTER
Rolling Star Block
Although this block has only three
shapes, it appears more complex
than it really is. Both diamonds are
the same size.
TO DRAFT A 6 ̋ (FINISHED) BLOCK:
- Draft a 6 ̋ Kaleidoscope block (page 47); do not erase
any lines. - Where the horizontal and vertical lines meet the
edge of the block, label those 1, 3, 5, and 7, starting at
the top and working clockwise. - Where the diagonal lines intersect at each corner,
label those intersections 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Label the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines.
- With a red pencil, connect 1 to 3 to 5 to 7 to 1 to
create an on-point square. - With a blue pencil, connect 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 to 2 to
create a square.

Where the red and blue lines intersect, another layer
of A and B points is created (basic structure); label
those intersections A and B. Refer to page 45 for clari-
fication, if necessary.
- To create the square you need, align your ruler as if
to connect a new A to a new B directly opposite each
other. Use a green pencil to draw in the sides of the
squares. - With an orange pencil, work clockwise from the top
to connect each new A to a second new B. This creates
the center diamonds, which are exactly the same size as
the outer-edge diamonds.
