Drafting for the Creative Quilter

8-POINTEDSTARBLOCkS 53

North Carolina Star Block

As I researched blocks, this one
was new to me, but easy to draft
and lovely.

TO DRAFT A 6 ̋ (FINISHED) BLOCK:

  1. Draft a 6 ̋ Kaleidoscope block (page 47); do not erase
    any lines.

  2. Moving clockwise and starting at the top edge,
connect each A to the B directly opposite it, as well as
to a second B diagonally across the square. This creates
    a large LeMoyne Star.

  3. Label the intersection inside each diamond 2. I have
drawn the large star in red and circled the intersections
so you can more easily see them, though there is no need
    for you to do so.

Draft a Kaleidoscope block; connect the A’s to the B’s
and label the intersections within the diamonds.

  1. Where the horizontal and vertical lines meet the
    block edge, label those 1.
    5. Where the diagonal line going toward the corner
intersects the AB diagonal across the corner, label
    those 3.
    6. To create the center on-point square and four rect-
angles, use a red pencil to connect two 2’s four times.
    7. With a blue pencil, connect two 2’s to a 1 four times.
    8. With an orange pencil, connect two 2’s to a 3 and
connect the 2’s to each other 4 times.
