Borders

Following the same process as the background, I folded

and pinned fabric around the edge of the quilt, changing

and refining until I was pleased. I wanted the borders

to be dark and to blend with what they touched. I also

pieced them in two or more fabrics and colors to quietly

move color and help with the blending.

Designing on an overall grid is a great way to begin

designing your own quilts. It is logical, flexible, safe, and

successful, whether you are an experienced quiltmaker

or just beginning to create your own designs.
