Button Tassel

This tassel has a head formed from a button knot (page 55), hence its name.

Tying

A button tassel is usually made by first tying a button knot using the remain-
ing cord ends of a knot formation and then fixing this head to some tassel
cords made from the same or different materials as the tassel head. Alter-
natively, the button tassel can be tied first and the remaining cord ends of a
knot formation then sewn into the head.
If a stiffer tassel head is required, the button knot can be tied simultane-
ously with two or more cords, although this tends to produce tangles. It is best
to tie a double-layer knot with a single cord by first tying a button knot with-
out tightening it, and then sewing the two cord ends together just below the
head, and finally using the cord ends to follow the weave separately in the
reverse direction. If a two-color button tassel is required, a second cord can be
used to tie a second layer following the same weave of the first. If more cords
are preferred, one or more cords can be folded and sewn into the tassel knot.

Tip

  • A two-layer and two-color button tassel has the advantages of having a
bigger head with a more pronounced weave.

of cords can be folded and sewn directly into
the bottom of the tassel head.
