GOOD LUCK TASSEL 115

TB

Good Luck Tassel

This tassel comprises a cylindrical head and tassel cords. Its tying method is
very similar to that of the good luck knot (page 62), from which it gets its
name.

Tying

Cross two cords at their centers. Following the tying method of the good luck
knot, fold one cord on top of the other one, as shown in step 2, and tighten to
make the first layer, as in step 3. Repeat this folding and tightening sequence
on the bottom side of the knot to make a second layer. Continue the sequence
until you reach the required head length, then secure the four cord ends with
a needle and thread. For a bigger tassel head, tie two or more cords as one. If
need be, fold and sew another bundle of cords into the bottom part of the
head (see step 2, page 112). Finally, hook the cord ends of the completed knot
formation to the tassel head with a crochet hook and stitch in place.

Tips

  • There are two sequential folding techniques. One is to fold each layer
sequentially clockwise, while the other is to alternately fold clockwise and
counter-clockwise for the different layers. The former results in a cylindrical
tassel head with a slanting grain, while the latter produces a cube with a
straight grain. Do not mix the techniques in the same tassel head.

  • Use different colored cords to add interest to the tassel.
