116 HORIZONTAL WEAVE TASSEL

TB

4 The tassel is completed by
sewing the two ends of the lati-
tudinal cord into the tassel head.

Horizontal Weave Tassel

This tassel has a head tied with longitudinal and latitudinal cords. The longi-
tudinal cords are fixed in position, but the latitudinal cords can be inserted in
a variety of ways to produce different results.

Tying

Fold an odd number of cords to make the longitudinal cords and wrap them
around a cylinder. After the cylinder is covered, start weaving the latitudinal
threads, one by one in and out of the longitudinal cords, then sew each end
into the tassel head. Finally, hook the cord ends of the already completed knot
formation into the tassel head with a crochet hook and sew in place.

Tips

  • After tying each longitudinal cord to the cylinder, fasten it at the bottom
of the cylinder with a thread to keep it taut, then only start weaving in the
    latitudinal cords.

  • Irregular weaving of the latitudinal cord will create different patterns or even
“words of good luck” on the tassel head.

Horizontal Weave Tassels

Once the longitudinal cords are tied
on the cylinder and sewn in place,
weave latitudinal cords of a different
color in and out to form the Chinese
character “luck” – or any other word.
