The accessory on this sun visor depicts a lucky bird frolicking in the sky, wishing the
wearer a safe journey. The tying technique of this lucky bird is basically the same as that
of the crane knot (see Chinese Knotting, page 80), comprising a pan changbody and a two-loop
cloverleaf knot neck. However, the double cockscombs and overlapping tail are different. To make
the double cockscombs, simply make another round on the cloverleaf knot with two outer loops
situated on the head of the crane, as shown here. To make the overlapping tail, take two cord
ends and overlap them to form the feathers on the tail. Fold the ends of a few short cords to form
“clouds” and sew them onto the sun visor.

This hat decoration comprises a main body decoration and a ring. To make the main
body decoration, fold a cord and tie a cloverleaf knot (1) followed by a round brocade
knot (2). Then tie another round brocade knot with six outer loops (9). Extend a cloverleaf knot
on the first outer loop on the right side (3), a pan changknot on the second outer loop (4) and
a cloverleaf knot on the third (5). Repeat this sequence on the outer loops on the left side (6–8),
making sure both sides are identical. After completing the round brocade knot, tie a double
connection knot (10). Hide the cord ends inside the knot body and sew the formation to the hat.
To make the hat ring, fold a cord, then tie a plafond knot (11) (see Chinese Knotting, page 56)
followed by two double connection knots (12, 13). Repeat this sequence until the ring is the re-
quired length. Hide both cord ends inside the first plafond knot and attach the ring to the hat.
13
Fold two different colored plastic
cords and tie them into a winged
pan changknot. Hide all four cord ends
inside the knot body. Glue the knot for-
mation onto a hair clip.
12
Make a piece of artificial leather
cord. With the leather side facing
out, fold the cord and tie a round brocade
knot with six outer loops (1). Then tie one
cord end into a cloverleaf knot with two
outer loops (2) and the other into a clover-
leaf knot with three outer loops (3). Insert
three love beans in every second outer
loop on the round brocade knot. Glue on-
to a hair clip.
14
Tie a plafond knot (see Chinese
Knotting, page 56) with a thick cord.
Hide one cord end inside the knot body.
Make a loop with the other one and hide
it inside the knot body. Embellish the rim
of the plafond knot by weaving and sewing
a gold cord into the knot. Insert a bamboo
stick or any stick made of wood, metal,
plastic or ivory into the two loops.
