This knot formation is made of
leather cord, which you may have
to cut yourself. With the leather side facing
out, fold the cord and tie a cloverleaf knot
(1). Make sure the two cord ends are long
enough, then separately tie two cloverleaf
knots (2, 3). Bring the two cord ends to-
gether and tie them into a ribbon knot
(4). Adjust the two cloverleaf knots in front
of the two outer loops of the ribbon knot.
After completing the ribbon knot, hide one
cord end inside the knot body. Tie the other
into a cloverleaf knot (5), then hide it also
inside the knot body.

Tie two plastic cords into two
separate butterfly knots. Lengthen
the top corner loops on each knot and cut
them open, then insert plastic straws, as
shown here. Cut the straw ends into fine
whiskers. Attach the two butterfly knots
to the springy rings on a disco headband.

A woolen hat can be decorated with knot formations made of similar colored
or contrasting woolen cords. Fold a cord and tie a ru yiknot (1). Then begin to
tie an eight unity knot (8), a variation of the six unity knot, for the crown. Every time
one of the double coin knots on the rim is reached, extend it into a ru yiknot (4,6,7,9),
thus forming a floral design with eight petals in the form of eight ru yiknots. Sew the
completed decoration to the woolen hat.

French berets made of velvet can be
embellished with leather cords for
contrast. Fold a cord and tie a cloverleaf knot
(1) followed by a round brocade knot with six
outer loops (4). When the third outer loop on
the right side is tied, bring the cord end back
up and tie a double-looped cloverleaf knot
(2) with the first outer loop. Repeat on the left
(3), making sure both sides are identical. Once
the round brocade knot is completed, hide
one cord end inside the knot body. To finish
the accessory, make a round with the other
cord end just below the knot formation, then
hide it also inside the knot body. Sew the knot
formation to the beret.

Tie a crane knot (See Chinese Knotting,
page 80). Then take another cord of a
similar color and add to the wings, as shown
here. This knot can be sewn onto a woolen ski
mask.
