This clip-on earring has a phoenix-like jade ornament at the
bottom. Begin the tying process from the tail of the phoenix.
Fold a cord and tie a cloverleaf knot (1) followed by a round brocade
knot with six outer loops (4). Extend the second outer loop on each
side into a cloverleaf knot (2, 3). Then tie a san cai knot (5) followed
by a pan changknot (6). Do not tighten the latter. Fold a gold cord.
Starting from the top part of the san cai knot, use the gold cord to
embellish the two sides of the knot, then weave it through the whole
pan changknot following the left side of the original weave. Tighten
the pan changknot and hide the cord ends inside the knot body. Sew
the knot formation onto a clip-on earring. Sew the phoenix tail onto
the top outer loop of the cloverleaf knot. Finally, sew some beads on-
to the ornament.

This clip-on earring is inset with beads. Fold a cord and tie a
round brocade knot. Hide one cord end inside the knot body.
Make a loop as big as the outer loops with the other cord end, then
hide it inside the knot body. Insert beads in all six loops plus the knot
center, then glue the back of the knot to a clip-on earring.
23
By itself, a simple basic knot can be an attractive ornament.
A good example is the clip-on earring here. Tie a thick cord
into a button knot. Tighten from both sides but not too much. Pull
the cord ends to the back and sew them down. Take another gold
cord and tie it into an identical knot by following the original weave,
then sew it down on top of the original knot. Glue the back of the
knot to a clip-on earring.

Fold a cord and tie a ru yiknot (1) followed by a crossed hui ling
knot (2). Hide one of the cord ends inside the knot body. Hook
up the other cord end with the silver ornament and tie a cloverleaf
knot (3). Hide the cord end inside the crossed hui lingknot. Hook up
the earring with the top outer loop of the ru yiknot, then sew the silver
beads into the two outer loops of the cloverleaf knot, as shown above.
