Fold a cord, leave a suitable length
for the necklace loop, then tie a clover-
leaf knot (1). Tie a pan changknot (10) at the
bottom of the cloverleaf knot. Extend the
middle outer loop on the top right side of
the pan changknot into a cloverleaf knot (2),
then hook it up with cloverleaf knot (4) tied
on the adjoining right corner loop of the pan
changknot. Extend the right corner loop of
cloverleaf knot 4 into another cloverleaf knot
(3). Extend the middle outer loop on the bot-
tom right of the pan changknot into another
cloverleaf knot (5) and hook it up with clover-
leaf knot 4. Repeat the steps on the left side
of the knot formation (6–11), making sure
both sides are identical. After completing
pan changknot 10, bring the two cord ends
together and tie them into a cloverleaf knot
(11), then hook them up with the adjoining
cloverleaf knots 5 and 9. Finally, pull the two
cord ends through the small porcelain vase
and tie a button knot (12) to hold it in place.

This necklace comprises two parts.
To make the first part – the necklace
loop – tie a series of flat knots (1) (see Chi-
nese Knotting, page 58) with three similar
colored cords. Make sure the loop is long
enough to go over the head, then tie the
two ends into another flat knot and bind
them tightly together.
To make the second part, fold a cord,
leave enough length to string an elongat-
ed bead and tie a button knot (2). Do not
tighten the knot too much. With the two
cord ends, tie a pan changknot (3). Pull
another cord through the button knot, then
only tighten it. Use the cord ends from the
button knot to embellish the rim of the pan
changknot. String the four cord ends with
a round bead and tie each of the ends in-
to a cloverleaf knot with two outer loops
(4–7). Bind each cord end with fine thread.
String the length of cord left above the
button knot with a big bead and sew it
onto the necklace loop.

Fold a cord and tie a golden bell knot
(3). After completing the first side loop
on the bottom right, turn back the cord end
and tie a cloverleaf knot with two outer loops,
with the last side loop situated on the right
slant (1). Repeat on the left side of the knot
(2), making sure both sides of the knot forma-
tion are identical. On completing the golden
bell knot, pull the cord ends through the body
and tie a double connection knot (4) on the
top of the golden bell knot. Leave enough
cord for the necklace loop, then tie a button
knot. Bind the cord ends with fine thread.
Finally, sew a bead or strings of beads into
the empty space at the bottom of the knot
formation.
