This ornament comprises two knot for-
mations hanging from a belt. To make
the first formation, fold a cord and tie a stone
chime knot (3). At the third side loop at top
right, turn back the cord end and tie a cloverleaf
knot with two outer loops (1) together with the
second side loop. Repeat on the left (2), making
sure both sides are identical. Continue down-
ward, tying a double connection knot (4), a
cloverleaf knot (5) and a button tassel (6). Insert
beads in the two side loops of cloverleaf knot 5.
To make the second formation, fold a cord
and tie a pan changknot (7) followed by a round
brocade knot with fourteen outer loops (14).
Extend the second and sixth outer loops on the
right into a cloverleaf knot (8, 10) and extend
the fourth outer loop into a pan changknot (9).
Repeat on the left (11–13). On completing round
brocade knot 14, tie a pan chang knot (15) and a
button tassel (16). Insert beads in the center and
in every second loop of round brocade knot 14.
Fold two colored cords over each end of the belt
and and sew them to the two knot formations.
Tie button knots (17, 18) to hide the joins.

A variation on using knotted cords is to simply print Chinese knots on clothes.
First, draw a butterfly (or any other) knot on a piece of cardboard. Then, using
a sharp cutting knife, cut out the parts to receive the color. Lay the cardboard template
on a suitable place on the garment. Spray, brush or dab paint or dye on the empty
spaces in the template. Alternatively, paint the knot pattern directly on the garment
without using a cardboard template.

Use the tying technique employing one cord end (see page 10 above), tie a long
series of creeper knots on both sides of the cord. Extend the outer loop of each
creeper knot (1) into a cloverleaf knot (2). On completing the desired length, sew the knot
formation onto the front of the dress, as shown above.
