For the key chain on the right, fold a plastic cord through the key ring and tie
a button knot (1) followed by a pan changknot (2). Use another cord to embel-
lish the rim of the pan changknot, then tie a smaller pan changknot (3) just below the
first one with the same cord. Pull the cord ends of pan changknot 2 through the body of
pan changknot 3 and extend them into a cloverleaf knot (4, 5) on the corner loop on each
side. Pull the cord ends out through the knot body of pan changknot 3. Finally, tie all four
cord ends into a button tassel (6).

Knot formations can enliven
plain shoulder bags. For this
decorative knot, first tie a golden bell knot
(5), then extend its bottom right corner
loop into a cloverleaf knot (1). Tie the side
loops immediately to the right and left of
the corner loop into a cloverleaf knot with
two outer loops (2). Repeat the steps for the
left side (3, 4), making sure both sides are
identical. On completing the golden bell
knot, pull both cord ends through the knot
body and out through the top, then tie
them into a button knot (6). String each
cord end with some colored beads. Then
tie each cord end into a cloverleaf knot (7,
8). Fold the cord ends back and bind with
fine thread. Use strong glue to attach the
knot formation to the bag.

To make this key ring, fold a
leather cord with its leather side
facing out and leave a small loop at the top
for hanging the keys. Then tie a double con-
nection knot (1), a plafond knot (2) (see
Chinese Knotting, page 56) and a button knot
(3). Pull both cord ends through the keys, as
shown, and hide them inside the body of the
button knot. Since the leather surface is quite
rough, the cord ends will not slide out. When-
ever more keys need to be added, pull out
the cord ends, restring the keys, then hide the
ends back inside the body of the button knot.
