To make this dangling ornament (see photograph page 17),
fold a cord and tie a double connection knot (1) followed
by a round brocade knot with six outer loops (6). Extend the first outer
loop on each side of the round brocade knot into a double connection
knot (2, 4). Tie the second and third outer loops together into a double
connection knot (3, 5). Make sure the left and right sides are identical
and are shaped like an inverted butterfly. Bring the cord ends together
and string a porcelain (or other) bead, then tie a pan changknot (7).
String another bead and tie another pan changknot (8). String a third
bead, then tie a butterfly-shaped knot formation (9–13), which is a
mirror image of the inverted butterfly completed in steps 2–6. Con-
tinue downward, tying a double connection knot (14) followed by a
button knot (15). Sew a two-color button tassel (16) onto it. Then tie
two cords separately into a round brocade knot (17), a stone chime
knot (18), a round brocade knot (19) and a stone chime knot (20).
Hook up the bottom side loops on each side of stone chime knots
18 and 20 with the outer loops of pan changknots 7 and 8, as shown
above.

To make this interesting necklace (see photograph page
13), fold a cord and tie a cloverleaf knot (1) followed by a
round brocade knot (4). Extend the first outer loop on each side into
a cloverleaf knot (2, 3). Then tie a round brocade knot with fourteen
outer loops (13). Extend the second and sixth outer loops on the right
side of the round brocade knot into a cloverleaf knot (9, 12). Extend
the fourth outer loop into a round brocade knot (11) and extend its
outermost loop into a cloverleaf knot (10). Repeat on the left side of
the knot formation (5–8), making sure the left and right sides are
identical. After completing the fourteen-loop round brocade knot,
bring together both cords and tie a button knot (14). Then separate
the cords and tie each one into a pan changknot (18, 22). Extend the
top, left and right corner loops of both pan changknots into a clover-
leaf knot (15–17; 19–21). Fold another cord and sew it into the body
of button knot 14, then separate the cord ends and separately tie
a simple knot (23, 24) at the bottom part of each pan changknot.
Continue tying a series of interspaced simple knots on both cords
to prevent them from going slack. Tie one end of the necklace cord
into a button knot and the other into a loop. Sew together the adja-
cent outer loops of cloverleaf knots 8 and 15, 12 and 19 to hold the
knot formation in place. Finally, sew beads of different sizes into
the loops of the knot formation, as shown above.
