For this striking knot formation (see photograph page 19),
fold a cord and tie a double connection knot (1), a plafond
knot (2) (see Chinese Knotting, page 56) and a winged pan changknot
(7). Tie the first and second side loops on the top right of the winged
pan changknot into a cloverleaf knot with two outer loops (3) and
extend the right corner loop into a cloverleaf knot (4). Repeat on the
left side (5, 6), making sure both sides are identical. After completing
the winged pan changknot, hook another cord to the bottom of it.
Tie each of the four cord ends into a cloverleaf knot with four (9, 10),
five (11) and six (8) outer loops. Then bind all four cord ends with fine
gold thread as well as the four cords just beneath the winged pan
changknot.

To make this hanging ornamental knot formation (see
photograph page 18), fold a cord, string the cord ends with
a porcelain (or other) bead, then tie a button ring knot (1) followed by
a longevity knot (2) (see Chinese Knotting, page 64). Leave a suitable
length of cord, then tie another button ring knot (3). String the cord
ends with a second porcelain (or other) bead, then tie a third button
ring knot (4). Separate the cord ends and on each tie a button ring
knot (5, 7). Finally, string a porcelain bead on each and attach a diago-
nal weave tassel (6, 8).
