60 DOUBLE COIN KNOT
Double Coin Knot
The double coin knot is a representation of an often-employed decorative motif
composed of two antique Chinese coins overlapping one another. Merchants once
took the design to mean prosperity, hanging it over the entrances to their shops
hoping to attract wealth. Used elsewhere, the double coin motif connotes not only
prosperity but also longevity.
Tying
In tying the double coin knot, two loops are made, one above the other. Then a third
loop is made and is woven through the other two to hold them together. The final
knot should not be tightened too much. Leave plenty of space within it to bring out
its pattern.
Tips
- As this is a very loose knot, it is necessary to stitch it together where the cord cross-
es over itself to keep it from slipping out of shape. - To tie this knot with one cord end, simply form two overlapping loops and weave
the end back through the center. If your second loop is formed below the first, the
situation is reversed.
