74 BUTTON RING KNOT

1

Button Ring Knot

This knot has the same basic shape and structure as the button knot except
that it now has a hollow center, hence the name button ring knot. When a
string is passed through the center of the knot, the whole knot can slide freely
along it. It can thus be used as a decorative design to replace beads. It can also
be used to cover the join of two cords.

Tying
One cord is used to tie this knot. Using a cylindrical rod as the axis, wind the
cord clockwise twice around the rod from the bottom up. Hold cord end B
steady with the left thumb and use cord end A at the top for tying. Pull up the
bottom cord on the side of the rod to intersect with the top cord, as shown in
step 2, then weave cord end A into and around the intersection. Part 1 is then
completed. Next, turn the axis slightly clockwise and start winding the cord
around the rod again, as described in part 1. Follow this method and tie as
many parts as you like in accordance with the length of the rod and the length
of the cord. If you tie cord end A backwards to follow the original route, the
whole thing will become a double-layered structure. If you make another
round following this same method, it will become a triple-layered structure.
Finally, pull out the rod axis and sew the cord ends into the body of the knot.

Tips

  • As cord end B is not tied, keep it short and steady on the axis.

  • After the tying process is completed, tighten the cord as much as possible so
that when the axis is pulled out, each part of the knot is exactly the same.

2 Pull up the lower cord and press
it against the upper cord to form
an intersection.
