84 DOUBLE TEN KNOT

1

Double Ten Knot

This knot takes the form of two joined crosses, hence the name. It is a simple
knot with wide applications. Once familiar with the tying techniques of the
knot, it is possible to tie many other knots, such as a simple cross knot (see
Chinese Knotting, page 45) and a triple ten knot. In addition to being used as
a decorative accent on clothing and other items, a series of knots sewn togeth-
er with fine thread can be used as trimming on clothes and home furnishings.

Tying

Following the tying technique of the pan changknot (page 64), first pull out
the main horizontal “trunk,” then tie both cord ends into a double cross to
complete the knot.

Tip

  • During the tightening process, pull slowly and evenly in all four directions
to ensure the end product is neat and tidy and not lopsided.
