88 GOLDEN BELL KNOT

2

1 Bend a cord then, step by step, tie a triangular
knot with a bay-like space in the bottom part.

Golden Bell Knot

This knot is bell-shaped, giving rise to the name golden bell. The knot is tied
leaving a bay-like space at the bottom of the san caiknot (page 103). The size
of the space can be adjusted according to the size of the decorative object to
be attached, which can either be chosen to fit completely or partially into the
space, according to preference. Alternatively, a tassel can be tied in the space
to make a different kind of ornament.

Tying

This knot and the san caiknot are both variations of the pan changknot (page
64), except that in this case the two protruding bases are tied separately using
two cord ends, thus creating the bay-like space. The size of the knot can be
varied to accommodate bigger or smaller objects in the bay.

Tips

  • As with the san caiknot, anchor each bend to the work surface with push
pins to avoid distorting the pattern.

  • Use a crochet hook or tweezers to help weave the cord through the pattern.
