94 LOVE KNOT

Love Knot

While both the double hui lingknot (page 90) and the love knot comprise two
overlapping hui lingknots, in the love knot the two hui lingknots overlap at
the hollow centers or the “heart” of the knot, hence the name.

Tying

First tie a hui lingknot. Upon reaching the overlap, pull out the two outer
loops to form the main “trunk” of the second hui lingknot. Then complete
the first knot and tie the corner of the second knot that resides within the first
one. Pull cord end A through the overlapped side on the right-hand side and
carry on making the second knot.

Tips

  • Make sure both knots are tightened to identical sizes. Tighten sequentially
until you reach the bend within the right overlap, then hold it down with a
few lightly sewn stitches, and then carry on tightening.

  • Pull the cords at each overlap as straight as possible and hold them down
    with stitches.

1 First tie ahui ling knot. Upon reaching the overlap, pull out one outer
loop from within and the other one from without the knot body to form
the main “trunk” of the second knot.

2 Upon reaching the inner side of the overlap, pull down cord end B and
continue tying.
