the heart of home improvement

Renovating, repaying, and helping those in need

Volunteers from the Greater Atlanta Home
Builders Association and South Haven Builders
partnered with nonprofit HomeAid Atlanta
in fall 2018 to completely renovate the
interior of one of the buildings in
The Drake Village, a program of
The Drake House nonprofit. Families in need
that have successfully graduated from the
initial free-housing program by
The Drake House move into The Drake Village
while learning to become
self-sufficient and paying scalable
rent. Thanks to the collaboration, as of
February 2019, Building 40 in The Drake Village now has more than double the number of rooms available.
The area now boasts two eight-unit apartment buildings that can be used as a long-term housing solution
by graduates of The Drake House Program. HomeAid builder captain Ryan Swallow volunteered for a
HomeAid Care Day in 2015 before making the commitment to renovate the facility this past winter. “It’s one
thing to help out for just a day, but to see this project come to fruition and see the first families move in
really brought home to me the value of giving,” Ryan says.
As a dedicated partner of The Drake House, HomeAid Atlanta has now worked on four renovations with
the charity. Want to get involved but not a home improvement pro? Participate in a Care Day on
May 16 and 17 or June 14 and help with landscaping, assisting with minor repairs, and more.
