Air Classics - Where History Flies! - August 2022

(coco) #1
With the featureless North African desert as a backdrop, German and Italian personnel examine the remains of a destroyed Royal Air
Force Hawker Hurricane. The rugged fighters were utilized to slow advances of German troops and armor but suffered heavy losses in
the unforgiving sky over the battleground.

80 AIR CLASSICS/August 2022

The pilot of the Hurricane made a safe gear-down landing (note the undamaged propeller) and it is not known if the fire resulted from battle
damage or if the pilot set his aircraft ablaze so that it would not fall intact into enemy hands. Also note that the aircraft has been fitted with
a large tropical air filter.
