anda desk,butnomore,”Lilysays.“Theyhave
a spacetosit,be,thinkandcreate.Butliving
ina smallhometogetheris a conversation
aboutrespect,personalspaceandprivacy.You
havetobereallyopentohow everyone else is
feeling,”sheexplains.
Havingnotelevisioninthehousemakesit
feelmorespacious,Lilyadds,andwhenthe
familydofeelhemmedin,theygoforwalksin
natureorvisitpublicspaces,turningtheoutside
worldintoanextensionoftheirhome.“Weall
looktooutsidespacestofindprivacy,too– the
beach,themountain,thelibrary,”Lilysays.
Butwhataboutwhenthekidsbecome
teenagersandstarttakingupmorespace– both
physicallyandemotionally?“Therenovations
we’vedoneareaninvestmentinourfamily
uptowhenthekidsreacha certainage,”she
explains.“Butwephysicallycan’tfitdouble
bedsthroughthedoorintotheirrooms– if they
want more space, they’ll have to move out!”
