removeda bankofcupboardsandhadthe
wholethingpainteddovegrey.“Thatwasa
bigmistake,becauseit endeduplookingreally
washedout.SoI hadit repaintedwhiteandthat
immediatelyopenedthespaceup,”shesays.
Thecouplealsoremovedthedatedback
sectionofthekitchenislandandswappedthe
glasssplashbackforsubwaytitles(partofthe
oldsplashbackis nowhasbeenrepurposedas
a cuttingboard).Blackleatherdoor-pulls(from
Lewis&Lou)werethenaddedtothecabinetry
tofurtherbringthespaceuptodate.
Sanjayputhiscarpentryskillstogooduse,
makingthediningtabletopfromplywood,while
thesteellegscamefroma 1970sFormicatable
Jessfoundatanop-shopfor$8andspray-
paintedblack.Theresultis a stylishtablethat
looksmoreexpensivethanit actuallywas.
Dottedaroundthehousearesomeof
Jess’ 50 orsoindoorplants,mostofwhich
she’sacquiredfromfriendsora localnursery.
