Not surprisingly, only a few people spoke English. Regrettably, my Spanish was nearly
non-existing, making locating food equally problematic. Furthermore, Argentina was a
beef country where vegetarianism was practically unheard of. Argentineans were, at
the time, the biggest consumers of beef per capita in the world and, God forbid, one
should be vegetarian. That said, plenty of good wine and pasta were available, and I
wasn’t complaining as I hardly ever ate anything but bread and pasta.
