he name may seem familiar, that’s because this is a live-action
adaptation of the 1998 animated movie Mulan. The historical
war drama is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the
eldest daughter of an honoured but ailing warrior, who masquerades
as a man to help fight northern invaders attacking China. It’s an epic
adventure with lots of flashing swords, flying arrows and martial arts in
the best of Chinese traditions. Shot in both China and New Zealand, the
