Bearded iris may be a single
color, speckled, or two-
tone, such as this ‘Florentine
Silk’. The beard refers to
the row of hairs at the center
of the flower. When planting
bearded iris in a border,
opposite, mix with perennial
grasses as well as other flowers,
such as salvias and asters,
that will come into their own
after the irises have faded.
