COVER

Laminated vinyl
shelf paper (Tobacco
Tiles; chicshelfpaper

and the hanging section.
“It lightens up the dark
wood inside,” Christy
says. She left the built-in
rack, which originally
held rifl es, for umbrellas.

PREP

Christy fi lled the old
knob holes, then used
a hand sander all over
the cabinet, taking care
not to remove all the
chipped paint. “I didn’t
want the cabinet to feel
like a completely
diff erent piece,” she says.
“I wanted to keep its
original character with the
texture of the old paint.”

PAINT

Christy brushed
on primer and two coats
of enamel paint and
sprayed a closet rod with
metallic paint.
