Kublai Khan’s portrait was painted after
his death in 1294 and hangs in the National
Palace Museum, Taipei, Taiwan. Opposite:
A Mongol warrior helmet was taken as
a trophy during one of Kublai Khan’s two
failed invasions of Japan.
