When composing a stock photo leave space for text (as we have with our
swan snap). This will make the shot more useful to designers.

Your iPhone is a one-stop shop when it
comes to producing sellable stock photos.
You can capture excellent quality images
with the Camera app and then process
them to perfection on your iOS version of
Photos while you enjoy a coffee break. If
you have the free Shutterstock Contributor
app on your iPhone then you can upload
freshly snapped and processed pictures to
your online portfolio and start selling them
the same day!

Process picture
In iOS Photos you have access to an
extra Vibrance slider. This selectively boosts
weaker colours without over-saturating
stronger ones. You don’t have the desktop
version’s Selective Colour panel, however.

2

Keyword and upload
Once you’ve processed your picture
launch Shutterstock’s Contributor app. Click
Upload>Start Here and browse to the image.
Enter image description and add keywords to
help buyers find it. Click ‘Submit’.

Step-by-step Overcome reasons for stock photo rejection

1

Import image
Choose File>Import. Browse to Stock
Source.jpeg. Click ‘Review for Import’. In the
Library panel click on ‘Imports’. Double-click
on the swan’s thumbnail. Click ‘Edit’.

4

Enhance colour
In the Colour panel increase Saturation
to 0.15. In the Selective colour panel click the
eyedropper on the swan’s beak and push
Saturation to 60 to boost the reds.

2

Counteract tilt
The horizon is slightly tilted. Click ‘Crop’.
Drag the rotation dial to counteract the tilt. An
overlay grid helps you create a straight horizon.
Click ‘Adjust’ when you’re done.

5

Adjust sharpness
In Sharpen drag Intensity to 0.50. This
increases contrast around edges to bring out
more detail. Push Edges to 0.44 to increase
the spread of the contrast change.

3

Adjust tones
In the Light section push Brilliance up to
0.30 to lighten shadows, reveal highlight detail
and add contrast. Set Highlights to -0.35 to
reveal even more detail on the bright feathers.

6

Reduce noise
In low light the camera may use a high
ISO setting which can add particles of noise.
The Noise Reduction slider will smooth out
noise, though it’s not needed in this instance.
