THIS IS THE LONG-AWAITED
version 2.0 of an app that first came
out on Mac 15 years ago – and in
all of that time Apple still hasn’t built its
core function into macOS, hence the belated
second coming. iWannaSleep is a timer app
that is accessible from your Mac’s menu bar
that can be used to automatically stop music
playing on your Mac after a certain amount
of time if you are listening in bed (something
you have been able to do in iOS for ages), run
scripts or Automator workflows, or just keep
your Mac awake to perform key tasks.
Setting it up requires little more than
clicking on the menu bar item, setting the
time and then choosing an action to be
performed when the timer ends. You can also
turn on an onscreen 60-second countdown.

CO-DESIGNED BY PRO DJS,
this feature-packed app allows
you to access millions of tracks
from Deezer, SoundCloud and many other
streaming services and work on your musical
ear and timing by mixing them on your
iPhone. The dual-deck system allows you to
play and queue tracks and a built-in sampler
lets you add effects and sonic embellishments
to put your own stamp on them. The app also
includes auto BPM detection, smart volume,
pitch control – everything you need to live
out your superstar DJ fantasies, apart from
roadies and, indeed, fans. Access to all of the
features will cost your £6.99/$7.99 a week
(or a much cheaper annual pass) but there is
enough here to warrant the price.

Head-slappingly simple but very effective,
this will be a god-send to many Mac users.

Verdict

Enjoyable and easy to use, but you have to
be serious about DJing to fork out.
