WHERE DID SEASON TWO
LEAVE US?
Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) escaped the
park while inhabiting a Host body based on
Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson). In the real
world, she rebuilt the deceased Host Bernard
(Jeffrey Wright) and her own body, and is also
in possession of the control units of five Hosts

  • who those are remains to be seen, although
one is presumably now in Hale’s body.

THE REAL WORLD
Season Three will properly explore the world
outside of the park for the first time, as
Dolores and Bernard attempt to navigate the
human world. Dolores meets Caleb (Aaron
Paul), a down-on-his-luck construction
worker forced to turn to crime, and finds that
humans in the real world are nothing like the
top 1% who can afford to visit Westworld.
“After all, people come to this park to amuse
themselves shooting robots and using them
as toys,” co-showrunner Lisa Joy says. “What

According to co-showrunner Lisa Joy, writing Westworld is “like
solving a complicated equation”. Here are some notes to help you
put together Season Three’s equation...

that human nature? What can we learn from
those perceptions?” The real-world, (probably)
human characters also include mysterious
roles played by Lena Waithe, Kid Cudi and
Marshawn Lynch, with Vincent Cassel playing
a villain.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MAN
IN BLACK?
Ed Harris’ Man in Black found himself in
the far future, being questioned by a Host
modelled on his daughter at the end of Season
Two. Is he in a physical Host body in the
future? Or is he in The Forge, Delos’ digital
store of all their guest data?

WHO IS STILL IN THE PARK?
Maeve (Thandie Newton) got her daughter
safely to the Host ‘afterlife’ at the end of
Season Two, but was killed in the process.
Season Three sees her in a new park, one
modelled on World War II, but we don’t
know yet if she retains her memories, or her
Host superpowers. Luke Hemsworth’s Ashley

Stubbs, the park security guy strongly hinted
to be a self-aware Host in the Season Two
finale, is also back for Season Three.

SEASON THREE IS STILL ALL ABOUT
HUMAN NATURE
At the end of Season Two, Dolores gained
access to Delos’ human ‘code’ and now
claims to understand humans completely.
Joy explains that human DNA means that we
don’t have free will so much as a “destiny
marked by biology and evolution... We have
inherited impulses that determine us and
escape our control, but in spite of everything
we try to change and be better. Trying to resist
toxic impulses is one of the noblest instincts
that people can have.” So far, Teddy (James
Marsden) and Bernard have had to rein in
Dolores’ toxic impulses. On her own, when
faced with real-world humanity, will Dolores
find herself becoming more, or less, human?

Westworld Season Three begins on Sky
Atlantic on 16 March.
