connected to the fingers. However, there are also some differences be-
tween the cortical map and actual body topography. For one, there are
several significant discontinuities. On the cortical map the genitals
are located at one end next to the foot rather than (or, in addition to)
near the center of the body, between the leg and the torso. The face is
separated off from the rest of the body rather than being represented
as attached to the neck. And the tongue is separated off from the face.
